tote me up, tote me down

There must a name given to that greedy "I want one in every colour" syndrome that so often occurs when you find yourself faced with rows of pretty products, all slightly varied but conforming to the same theme.

Case in point are these 'Maptote bags' which make you want to book 25 different flights to their namesake cities for tourist galavanting, or at the very least order each and every one of the totes.

Quite a steal at $15/£10, I think I'll be ordering these for all of those impending birthdays!

this is a perfect reincarnation of that annie hall 2009 look that me and abby have both been liking. a classic shirt + tanned legs + some suitable chunky and modest sandals= winning look

does this make me preppy? hell, add some messy hair, red lippie and my scruffy balance is back.

the weekend

off to edinburgh this weekend to celebrate my best mate's birthday.
i've shoved everything into the leather suitcase that I insist on taking purely for sartorial reasons even if it means putting my back out.
here's hoping it'll be as fun as last year.

the summer holidays

i'm a little bit crazy about these..

this is what we do:
+spend the morning on the sofa eating straight from the cereal box.
+heave the windows at night so that the curtains dance til the morning in the cool breeze.
+doss about the house in underwear, no make up and a silky dressing gown because everyone else is at work.
+paint your nails as you watch cartoons.
+develop a carefree uniform of sundresses and trustworthy tees. you throw them on to hit the shop for more haribo.
+listen to lee scratch perry. just because he's better when the sun is shining.
+lie in bed all day reading the books you didn't have time for.
+enjoy the guilty pleasure of drinking straight from the carton at breakfast.
+sit in the garden with a jug of iced drink and a stack of magazines.
+lay blankets in the park with friends.
+wake up every morning to the smell of summer dust.
+promise yourself you'll find a second hand bike to ride around on but realise it's the end of the day and you didn't get round to it.

there's nothing like the met costume gala to prod me from a semi-comatose state of blogging, and I must say that after last year's disappointing proceedings which involved a distinct lack of imagination in the superhero costume department, this year's attendees all deserve a pat on the back for such dedication. because let's face it, cooing over their dresses and kirkwood bedecked feet is about as glamorous as most of our monday night could get. we're the parasites who get our fix of glamour second hand from them.

seeing as the met gala is the thickly underlined and enthusiatically highlighted fixture on the fashion calender I thought I'd write a homage in poem form to last night's affairs. cuz, you know it's all in a days work for an A-grade english student. (i kid, i kid)

first of all let's raise a toast
to racquel whose outfit I cooed over most
looking on top form a bleached ms zimmerman
more to be said than for "guess who" in wang
yes, dree hemingway, how predictably,
but goodness me, where was chloe sevigny?

diane kruger looked like a perfect cloud
to ms leighton, respect for going so loud,
I suppose I must eat my hat and say,
Erin Wasson in Phi took my breath away,
January Jones undeniably one to watch,
hold! lara stone, I almost saw your crotch!

mayock, kebede, traina all deserve a mention,
madonna as per usual centre of attention,
elson and white couple of the night,
hocus pocus, what a frightful delight!

a short and sweet inspiration on a wednesday because from 9.00am today I shall embark on a three day long graphics exam. which means I need all the inspiration that I can get my grubby little prit-sticked fingered hands on!
