Today I'm wearing a white sundress with a navy Benetton jumper, some red lipstick and my old suede riding boots. It has been a week since I handed in my dissertation and I've been spending my time like a teenager during the Summer holidays. I'm not even finished yet but the relief of no more essay writing has temporarily trumped all and I've been doing all of the things I've wanted to do over the last month, but free of the guilt. Last week I went to see Pedro Almodovar's 'I'm So Excited!' which was fantastic and camp and silly and perfect for a Friday night that was warm and had the smell of the day's sun still thick in the air.
Last night I cooked a big lebanese meal with some of my close friends. Lots of Ottolenghi food-porn (slow-cooked lamb, roasted aubergines and butternut and couscous) and conversation all washed down with delicious vodka/vermouth/mint concoctions made by my friend Charlie. This morning I ate a cheese sandwich and read more of Jerusalem with my tongue hanging out of my mouth. It's all about eating and reading about more food simultaneously.
On Friday I had a couple of job rejections which put me in a funk for a day but I'm feeling okay about them now and realising that rejections are an inevitability and will help me to build a thicker skin as well as generally helping me to get better at the things I love and want to do. In the words of Aaliyah..

I love reading recipe books while I eat too! Favourites at the moment are the Canal House cookbook, Tassajarra Cooking and I'm slightly ashamed to say Gwyneth Paltrow's 'It's All Good' which is a little too virtuous to not be annoying, but the recipes are good and simple.
Jerusalem and Plenty by Ottolenghi are always on high rotation too!
Sorry to hear about the job rejections. I can't even tell you how many I've had since graduating - probably something like 50, or 100, or maybe even more if you include the applications that were met with only silence.
I really struggled for a while to learn how to handle it. In fact I still wouldn't take it all that well if it was a job I really really wanted... but I guess it is good for the ego to be knocked around a little. Good luck with future applications!
That's just what I'm wearing tomorrow- shirt dress, navy woolie & suede boots! Good luck with the job hunt, the right one will come along for you just wait and see! x
Like the Aaliyah ref! :)
Benetton jumpers are awesome, and the red lipstick with that outfit rocks. I can't wait to watch the new Almodovar film, in Spain they've called it "Los Amantes Pasajeros", that it would be something like "The Passenger Lovers" haha, but I've seen that the international title is I'm so excited.
That lebanese meal sounds yummy, I'd like to try some of that.
I feel a bit depressed too with things like job rejections, but as you said you have to get on the best mood and think that they make you have a thicker skin. Life is like that...
Hope you're still having fun those days since you've finished the dissertation! I'm pretty busy these days, studying for my uni exams.
xx
Love this look, simple and so perfect for the changeable spring weather. The Lebanese meal sounds fantastic. Hope you find a job soon, the others probably weren't the right ones for you, if you keep trying you will find something just right.
looking very descent.
love the outfit!
