she had to go wrong sometime soon

after much finger tapping and wondering the august issue of paris vogue is here. but i'm afraid to say that i'm disappointed. maybe it's just that covers like this have spoilt us?

the cover is so overly airbrushed, that is seems to veering in the more classic direction of us vogue, and daria's editorial just seems a little disjointed, jolting from fantastic shots (see floor length fur coat with bikini) to questionable styling choices (the coulottes and heeled boots)

however, the emmanuelle alt-styled editorial seems to be more promising, with anna selezneva nonchalently strutting past the paris boutiques radiating lowkey glamour even in the candid style shots by terry richardson.

then just when i was feeling disappointed by the issue, the an interesting concept waltzes onto my screen..

the editorial featuring raquel zimmerman donning fur and being hounded by animal rights activists is a fantastic concept; it's editorials like this that sets paris vogue (not forgetting vogue italia) at the top of it's league. still, there are only two pictures so far from what I can see, so will have to wait for the real thing.

The cover is a little bit creepy. But at least the editorials are of quality.

that fur editorial looks fascinating - what a daring idea! you're right, i definitely can't imagine the other vogues doing this..

I think the cover has an interesting '70s vibe.

First thing's first:

I would love to switch links. I ran it across you a few times, and even threw your link up, but I just figured you weren't interested.

As for Daria. I must say that I might be in the minority, but only because we never see this sultry, polished side of her -- at least portraying such an iconic glamour. But, yes, in a way, I sort of like how .... unattractive she looks. Hm.

I agree that we are much more spoiled by a fun splash of Daria.

Anyways, it's an okay over and an okay editorial, but that editorial of Raquel!!! THE WAY SHE FLIPS OFF THE PETITIONER IS sooooo sexy. I love it. That is enough reason in itself to buy the issue. Eeek!

Thanks for posting this btw, and thanks for mentioning that the pictures weren't showing up on my blog. I usually skip down to the comments and don't want to look at the entry anymore (since I get sick of reading it after proof-reading and such). I hope I didn't suck their bandwidth -- yikes.

Phew, that's a long comment.

Anyways dear, I'll get your link up again right now, and I hope you have a fantabulous weekend and I'll hear / talk to you soon.

Ick! The hair on the cover shot really spoils it for me, it's not chic at all.

Ugh. I'm completely against wearing fur that this just simply turns me off. Such a shame, I usually love Vogue paris.

I was really disappointed by the cover, I didn't even recognize Daria at first. But the editorials look nice.

what a miss. is it snowing already in paris? that cover is rather disturbing if you're melting under the sun.

I agree, the cover is real dissapointing and I could say almost a US Vogue cover. But I like some of the photo's from Daria.
Raquel on the othter hand did a great job. Love the finger photo :P.

Daria looks like an old woman! The cover doesn't do justice to the funner (sorry, crappy word) editorial inside.

Daria, what have they made you?

I didn't even realize that was Daria. I hate when people are heavy handed with the airbrushing. Daria is gorgeous as is, they didn't need to photoshop her into a completely different person.

On the other hand, Raquel's editorial looks great so far.

I beg to differ; i think that the cover is really different and i love the colors used; although i've got to say it's a bit over; draping the coat over the (airbrushed) model..

The spread on fur is amazing and I would love to get my hands on a copy of Vogue Paris just for that. It's amazing!

That editorial with the fur and the animal rights activists does seem interesting!

i'm not much of a furry coat person at all, so i wouldn't wear one with those outfits, but i understand the fashion aspect of it, and i do like the bikini and fur coat shot.

considering how much i love daria i hate this cover! way too airbrushed

but i dont know... the peta ed - it seems like its trying too hard to be controversial
one part of me likes it but on the other hand it just makes me feel sorry for the dying animals :(

the fur editorial looks very interesting. i'm not sure about the cover though.

I agree that the cover looks too airbrushed. It removes the beauty from what could otherwise be an amazing picture

ahhh that "Fur is dead" shot is amazing.

i agree about the cover, it barely looks like daria, more like a plastic version of her....but that editorial with racquel was amazing!

Blonde hair, Blue jeans said...

i totally agree with you....don't like too much that cover....Daria looks older and the outfit is not really nice...
though the editorials inside are amazing!

They photoshopped Daria to unidentifiability almost which is such a shame as she's best natural. Even the editorial is disappointing..
