that was hazy cosmic jive

[galaxy+print+space.jpg]

day dress, strapy wedges, skirt suit, flared slacks, killer heels, graphic satchel, easy hang vest.

Now evidentally, none of the mid-range fashion brands have taken seriously their responsability of shamelessly recreating peter pilotto-esque space and galaxy prints. Lusting after all things intergalactic since the backend of last year, I'm still on the hunt of garments to help me act out my nebula fantasies (haha, just me or does "nebula fantasies" sound like a phrase that would be incredibly well suited to space fan porn? anyone?..) the disappearance of my galaxy print purse (the same fateful night I lost my camera) certainly hasn't furthered me in my quest. Desperate times call for desperate measures and all that. And well, what can I say, I'm a natural designer, allow me if I may..

"I present the "Hazy Cosmic Jive" collection, kindly named by Mr David Bowie himself, these silky pieces hang like carefree whispers with the occasional Hannah Gibbons scalloped edge thrown in for good measure. Snap up the collection before the Scientologists do, they've been poaching me to sell them rights to reproduce the pieces for their "uniform". I'll let Beck and Juliette Lewis wear them, but after that I draw the line."

What a pitch! I think I smell funding pie..

hats off

For every fad, there comes a backlash.
The irony is that often this backlash will, in itself become a fad, but let's leave that thought for now.

As a little backlash against the fedora fad of 2007/08 comes a preference for some "proper" headwear. Think Mary poppins and men in boater hats.
My choice of headwear this summer is going to be the boater, I curse the day I didn't go ahead and buy one from a fantastic little second hand shop in Ross-on-Wye after trying it on twice.

[boater+hats.jpg]

The hats featured in Jalouse March 2009 are pleasingly squished in appearance, they're very much in the style of Mary Poppins. They make me want to create a shamelessly crafty version for myself; some quality street wrappers glued here? A bunch of flowers stuck there?

downtime look

For those who have ever spent a bowling session thinking less about strikes and more about that dreadful moment when you must swap your bowling shoes back for your own, comparitably measly footwear, a solution is in sight!

from left to right. top; petite bateau, brogues; rupert sanderson, rings; asos.com
jeans; topshop, leather bags; topshop, perfume; flowerbomb by viktor and rolf

Though, of course, when I say solution I mean, for those of you willing to throw £265 at the problem over the less moral option of simply sneakily running off in a pair from your local alley.

Rupert Sanderson have designed bowling style brogues which I'm rather smitten with.
Perfect for a stroll around a sunday flower market with slightly rolled up jeans, possible bed hair and french-style quirks.

acne fall oh nine

[acne+fall+09.jpg]

tomorrow sees the start of new york fashion week and therefore the "official" start of fall 09! if that sends shivers down your spine and messes up your biological clock, you're not the only one.. to get into the swing of things, feast your eyes on the acne fall 09 collection.
the search for a wedged boot rages on.* my mum has a fantastic pair but loves them too much to share.. boo!

meanwhile the sellophane trousers are looking awfully appealing and further applause for the long and simplistic silhouette continues in the form, this time, of loose tux trousers instead of a maxi dress.

*and a nod of the head..
to the magnificent minimarket wedges, for if I had the cash (alas, any cash) this is where it would go.

advent season: day eight, christmas dressing for aetheists

so you're an atheist, and while you don't want to give up your stockings and roast turkey with all the trimmings, perhaps you're feeling a little immoral celebrating a holiday you don't technically believe in?

(yeah, me neither.. i'm of no religious persuasion and i'm not too fussed but for arguments sake) because bubbling under the surface is a bit of an underground "space" moment and now is the perfect time to celebrate (if you so desire) the creation of the earth itself; the big bang!

the guys behind up and coming label Peter Pilotto sent intergalactic creations whizzing down the AW08 runway and i'm desperate to get my hands on one of the spacey designs faster than you can say asteroid.

and while I don't see my savings stretching this far anytime soon, by some incredible stroke of luck I came across the coolest little galaxy printed purse; it's rather unusual and just about borde
ring on tacky. it'll do for now, because unless my christmas bonus covers the small fortune of one of the dresses, i'll be waiting.. uh, lightyears..

clearly if you manage to land yourself an outer worldly get-up, you'll need music to match and cut copy's "far away" seems the perfect accompaniment for moonwalking and silly "aetheist" dancing!

the anti muse; colonel sanders

i'm a bit of a one for championing an anti-fashion hero.
it's why often I'll find myself drawn to characters in films, or odd characters from books and cartoons.
for the past couple of months ago, my latest anti muse has been colonel sanders.

the stringey chicken buckets and meat stench I can do without, thanks, but take a closer look and you're left with a very ashley olsen-esque white blazer, clear clubmaster glasses and the coolest little cravat, which is rather western chic.

similar accessories have popped up on the catwalk at rag and bone and luella over the past couple of seasons, and they're the perfect accompaniment to a little androynous finery, just how colonel sanders likes it.

diy on my mind

http://static.uber.com/media_fetch/243667571_4186_originalsideswipe_instory5.jpg
i always used to be too lazy for diy projects.
well, i kind of still am.

but over the last couple of weeks, everytime I have sat down on the bus after college a couple of ideas have popped into my head..

1. creating some obscenly meticulous latice effect leggings ala rodarte.

2 or settling for an equally gorgeous (and much easier to reproduce) pair ala anja rubik.

3 and getting some studs and sewing them onto the knees of my jeans ala (whisper her name, she smells..) cory kennedy.

my predictions; that ridiculously pain-staking tee shirt project that childhood flames is getting into is going to be the new bleached jeans diy project. then the slashed leggings will follow! if only betting stocks took such predictions..

edit: aww crap. i just checked up on fashion toast and rumi beat me to it! schadenfreude to me, ha.

skull rings on my mind

when i was in london during august, i saw on a couple of different occasions, skull rings.
one was in gill wing, a jewellers on upper street in islington, which was a bit too pricey for my scrawny "on unpaid work experience" arse.

the other was £20 from a stall off brick lane. i thought that seemed a bit much.

now everyday, i kick myself for not buying the latter.

i found this which perfectly fits the bill. alas, it is £164. better dream on or start saving.

leopard print

i'm reallyreally feeling leopard print at the moment.

a sexy bodycon dress like this one.
a little leopard trench.
or bit fluffy baggy jumper.

i'm not fussed.
pic the bloody godawful cobrasnake.
