It’d hard not to like Jennifer Connelly, she is muse to Nicolas Ghesquiere (along with cool girl Charlotte Gainsbourg) and is one of those actresses who manages the keep the balance just right of maintaining a CV of some rather credible films, but keeping her private life out of the clutches of Perez Hilton’s wrath, resulting in a clean and dignified image.

So if, as a top fashion glossy, you manage to secure Connelly as your cover star, you’d want to mix it up a bit wouldn’t you? Hire Steven Klein, give the lady a wardrobe that gives her some well earned dirtysexy MILF appeal; whack some grubby bronzer on, and grease up her hair a bit..

Well, I should point out that this is US Vogue, so that is most certainly not what they did, thank you very much! Testino was the man to do the job, naturally. The shoot consisted of the usual clichéd Ralph Lauren poster girl look, against a backdrop of the sea. A couple of “edgy” shots thrown in for good measure; a ‘W’-esque one, with bright rich tones, “interesting” angle and a few extra points with head to toe sexy Balenciaga.

Just another “glamorous mom-shoot”; you know the one I mean; it applauds the rich, made up character for packing so much into her day as well as being a mother! What a woman. Granted, it’s not as bad as it could have been, but shame on you, Vogue, look what you had to work with...

That middle dress from Balenciaga she's wearing looks good on her!

actually i didn't mind the shoot, i loved two of her dresses and the very patriotic colors of red, white, and blue, but yes vogue has done more unique shoots beofre

not to be a grouch here but with this big off-beat, hipster movement now, current fashion can virtually be found everywhere BUT vogue? Wintour needs to mix it up a bit, cos theyr coming up stalemate.

p.s. *does not include vogue italia

I somehow managed to miss 'Labrynth' when I was a kid but have loved her work as an adult. Plus, she's darkly gorgeous and very adventurous with her look.

Has she always made so many bold redcarpet choices? Because those are great. Though I find Eva Green more to my liking...

Hmm, Eva Green annoys me a little, I have to say, Clotheshorse. Just a little try hard and fussy looking at times..

And Deexdeexdreamer, I think there are many people who would agree with you on this one (though I would exclude French Vogue too). You might be interested in reading the "vogue debate" from a while ago, people had lots to say! Jennifer Connelly was phenomenal in Requiem for a Dream (best grotesque drug film ever), so I have liked her since. Now that she is a Balenciaga muse, I simply adore her.
Eh US Vogue is so mundane; literally, every issue features an editorial with Trentini jumping in the air with a pseudo-happy look on her face, a gushy article about a hollywood celebrity, and overly analytical assessment on food, which is always featured with close-up 'evocative' pictures of caviar or fish, and various leafy greens.

i agree with what you said about US vogue and what they did with Connelly's shoot, they really do need to mix it up a bit more.

love the third dress that jennifer's wearing, though!

Loving your description of the "glamourous mom-shoot"! So true.

But that's what she is - a glam Mom (although as an actress it doesn't mean that that's all she is / can be) and that who Vogue are trying to sell their issues too: glam Moms - grown-up, affluent women who can buy the things they shoot and want to be their cover girls, I mean women, not way-cool hip Brit girls (like you).

But you're right though, it is all a bit booooring.
I would like to see what W would have made of her

Hey- you know how I feel about Balenciaga and Jennifer Connelly! She is apparently going to be the face of Balenciaga and has supported Ghesquiere since he started. Ghesquiere, however, wanted Poesy (who we both love!) to front the campaign. But wasn't aloud as her face isn't well known, as Connelly's, in the US. So Poesy signed up with Chloe.
Anyway, agree with you about US Vogue shot- too bland. It's a shame.
Given you a mention on my latest post ;)

all I cna say is "I KNOW!!!". I mean look at the second dress he's wearing, goodness they could've done something alot more interesting!!
I'm in love with the new heading by the way...I'm glad you kept chloe in there =)

she's really a timeless beaurty, and even though gofugyourself slated her in that middle balenciaga dress, I think she looks lovely.
But then again, the only people not being slated by gofugyourself are those who are too boring to take risks!

Hiya MK
I know what you mean I'm loving Jennifer at the moment, another fabulous Jen to add to the list of them!
I don't think she looks great in evertything but she experiments which is what I love about her, non of this LBD that Jen Aniston sticks too.
And I thought from our blogs people can tell you are more quirky with your style and I'm more classic so I thought MK should be you and Ash me.
And obviously I am Ben Affleck because I like Jennifer's! hahah

I'm not v. keen on the Balenciaga dress (but then again I'm in the minority.) I really like Jennifer Connelly though, even the glam mum shoot!

I loved her in requiem for a dream. I agree with miss woo, the balenciaga dress looks a little odd but maybe it's just because I haven't adjusted to the daring silhoutte yet, but I applaud her for experimenting and trying something new :)

Oh damn, she's an off-beat dresser in her own way but I'd have loved Clemence so much more in the Balenciaga adverts..

I don't like that dress in the middle (the last images), but i like all the rest though..And she's so stunningly gorgeous!

Hey MK
you know me so well (maybe as we are twins?) because I am actually so excited about that film with all the Jen's
There are some great things being made at the moment, like 27 dresses with Issy from Grey's Anatomy

well i really don't believe jennifer connelly is the perfect woman who could have worn the last balenciaga's dresses ! really ! i think it does not go well with her
she has never been a very stylish woman ! she is just doing what her stylist says ! i'd rather see irina or jessica, a top model, someone that lives in the fashion but HER ! ew ! so not ! i think does kind of very avant garde dresses should be only worn by visionnaries people like kate moss or even carine roitfeld
but not miss connelly sorry guys
