If you haven't already , you really must watch Valley of the Dolls, it's unintentionally hilarious and great for a dressed up night in with a group of mates. You should equip yourself with a bottle and a homemade bingo board so that you can cross off a box everytime you hear "Sparkle Neely, Sparkle!"

I read the Jacqueline Susann novel a couple of summers back during a lazy week in Devon with my best friend and recommend it; nothing life changing, but perfectly trashy all the same.

Watch the trailer below and you should get an idea of how fantastically camp the film is. Dionne Warwick's theme tune is perfectly self pitying and the interiors and costumes don't hurt, either.

Two minute clip with RJ Cutler and Anna Wintour

This weekend sees the premiere screening of "The September Issue" at Sundance Film Festival. The documentary, is the outcome of eight months of filming at 4 Times Square and focuses on the production of the September issue back in 2007. (You may remember it from the cover which saw Sienna Miller with slicked back hair and superdark eyebrows.. it gathered a bit of a negative reaction at the time, If I rememeber correctly.)

For all of the Wintour bashing that makes up a good fraction of the archives on this blog, I must admit I'm very curious to see this. The frustration at the absence of inspiring editorials and the seeming lack of fashion forward content often makes me forget Anna's importance within the fashion industry. Though it may be easy to question how on earth her influence can still be relevant in an age where the likes of France Sozzani (who incidentally has edited Vogue for as long as Wintour has, and yet still manages to keep up with the mood of modern fashion and society) Carine Roitfled are steaming ahead and editing much more cutting edge international editions, they are arguably able to get away with more when they have a smaller circulation and therefore less of a reliance on the approval of advertisers. As much as we may disapprove an issue for it's unoriginal content, it must be a tricky balancing act for editor in chief, to 'people-please' both the readers, advertisers and still stay true their indiviual creative aesthetics.

I'm interested to know what Anna's reasons were for allowing the team, led by Director RJ Cutler to film for such a long period of time; in total 300 hours of footage has been produced. It seems out of character for the famously icy editor and Cutler himself claims that Vogue fashion director Grace Coddington was originally less than welcoming to towards them.

Three cheers for the debut of Coppola's Dior advertisement!

News in from fashionologie.com; Sofia Coppola's first advert for the Miss Dior Cherie fragrance debuted last night and lucky US viewers got to see it in the gossip girl ad break!

I've been very excited indeed about this advert, especially as Sofia has been somewhat AWOL since the birth of her daughter, so it's good to see her working on something again. The short feature sees Maryna Linchuk cast at the Dior girl with a sufficiently satisfying abundance of candy coloured balloons and paris scenes by the look of images which have been posted at fashionologie.



To top it all off, Maryna "playfully romps through the city streets, all to Brigitte Bardot's song, "Moi, Je Joue.""

We get toilet duck and OK magazine flashed in our faces and you guys over the pond get Coppola and Bardot? Dayum..

sigh, it's the weekend.

short shorts and quivering knees

dirty dancing is one of those guilty pleasures, let's face it; it's not a very cool film to like. i'll watch it every couple of years and giggle and sigh in all the right parts, and unashamedly cave in and behave in an overly girlish manner reserved only for this film.

baby is meant to be uncool.
but everytime i watch it, this outfit sticks in my head.

donnie darko has taken me back to the 80s

tee; fox and fawn, shorts; kirsty lee's ebay, denim vest; homemade, shoes; vintage russell&bromley, scarf; my mum's, ring; topshop, necklace; a present from abby

for the past week, I seem to have been sub consciously channeling the 1980s. I think this is most probably as a result of watching a particular clip from donnie darko (set in 1988) about 40 odd times for film studies, and having tears for fears and echo and the bunnymen on shameless replay in my head and on my ipod.

the 80s influence finally struck me this evening when i was having a wardrobe experimenation session and without a second thought, whipped this scarf from my mum and knocked it around my hair. and i then realised this was of course an undoubted homage to the topshop unique show and it's bananarama references.

the denim vest is homemade; i hacked into the sleeves of an old denim jacket the other week and am most pleased with the results. considering sewing studs along the front of it..
and the new ring is from topshop, i bought it on my break the other day as i have a thing for shiny animal rings!

the stool is for purely for practicality; i'm sure those of you who take your outfit snaps yourself are aware of the trials of camera balancing, self-timer-ing and such, but then again, I guess I could pass the standing on the stool off as a cecil beaton reference?
