from ljubljana with love

Today I'm celebrating my 20th birthday and my last day in Ljubljana, Slovenia. I've sort of fallen in love with this city and want myself a flat in one of the crazy high rise blocks with huge concrete window boxes filled with geraniums and ferns. The above picture doesn't really do the actual sight of these complexes justice, but take my word for it. There are also lots of sexy girls and boy here wearing very very nice clothes. Next stop is Germany so if anybody has tips for Berlin please share them with me! Traveling alone has felt really good, I've had the chance to finally do some proper reading, swim in the stupefyingly beautiful Adriatic Sea and feel I've pushed myself nicely out of my comfort zone. I've also eaten a Horse meat burger and found the experience completely odd and then nauseating when I reached the last bite and felt the urge to throw up. Nice. See you on the other side!

I have also been to ljubljana in 2008 rolled in on the train at 4am. Had to try and sleep in the station, got weirded out but still Very friendly people! The fashion there is crazy

Definitely check out the Humana chain of charity shops, there's a massive one at Alexanderplatz. Apparently Kreuzberg is cool but I never made it there, I need to go back!

There is so much to do in Berlin, I'd recommend just doing the things you really want to rather than the main tourist attractions you feel compelled to do, there's no time for everything so you may as well just enjoy yourself. I took a tour bus and also a boat tour that took in most of the main sights. Don't go out of your way to see the checkpoints, they really are "blink and you'll miss it" huts in the road. We had a great time at the zoo. Also, we don't really do this in Britain as our ticketing systems tend to not work that way, but look out for people selling on their tickets for things, like five day train tickets that they've only used two days of, I found a real bargain that way.

Have a great time!

Berlin has a more alternative/punky atmosphere, and some really cool thrift stores. The artwork on the Berlin wall is also a must-see!

Good Luck in Germany!

Hi Stevie, I went to Berlin in May - there's a post on my blog from when I got back with lots of tips of where to go, eat and drink and getting around - you definately should hire a bike, it's without a doubt the best way to see the city x

i spent one month in berlin learning german in the mornings, wandering around the city and finding random shops like supermarket with wigs in the afternoon and then clubbing all night. it's perfect there, have fun!

i'm jealous of your adventures - and of travelling alone!

i'd recommend the bauhaus archives in berlin, if you're into that kind of stuff. it's amazing and one of my favorite places! and there's a little market on winterfeldtplatz (i know it's on saturdays, but might also be open on wednesdays) where they (usually) have delicious kaiserschmarrn (sort of chopped up pancakes that you can get with different toppings). mmm...so good!

and like everyone said, there's good - and affordable - thrifting all over the place. i'm sure you'll have an amazing time just exploring whatever neighborhood you're staying in!
have fun!

I just got back from Berlin, it's an amazing city. I loved Brewers tours, a full day or 4 hour walk around the city with really fun and knowledgeable guides, they meet by Friedrichstrasse station.

Woww, I've never thought Slovenia could be a good place for vacation. Berlin is a lovely city. I fell for its parks and green areas. Don't miss the cathedral's park - it's fantastic.

Love xx

The Bauhaus Archiv was amazing, just the building itself, plus the cakes were good. It's also just near Garage, the massive vintage warehouse that you have probably heard about.

Also I would recommend Suarezstrasse if you make it over to Charlotenburg (for contrast to the East alone it's worth a visit) Tony Durante has a vintage shop there & told me & my mum stories about Kate Moss & dug out all these pieces he loves too much to sell. There's also a nice more antique type vintage shop & a haberdashery shop on that road too, as well as a load of antique shops. More expensive but much better quality than anywhere else in Berlin.

There's also Alex's Vintage, which I can't completely remember where it is, but walking distance from Alexanderplatz.

I'm sure you'll have a wicked time! & Slovenia looks amazing
